Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Do I need a medical referral to consult an occupational therapist?
In Quebec, you don't need a medical referral to consult an occupational therapist. You can make an appointment directly with us at the CANOPÉE clinic. However, some insurance companies or reimbursement programs may require a medical prescription to cover the cost of occupational therapy services. We therefore recommend that you check with your insurer for specific coverage requirements.
Q2: What should I wear?
Since most of our work takes place outdoors, it's important to wear comfortable, functional clothing that's adapted to the day's weather (sun, rain, snow, etc.). Remember to wear layers to adjust to temperature changes, as well as sturdy shoes suitable for walking. If you're not equipped, don't worry: we can lend you certain items, such as raincoats or accessories, so that you're well prepared and can enjoy your nature session to the full.
Q3 : Will my appointment be cancelled if the weather is bad?
Your appointment will not be canceled depending on the weather. We believe in the benefits of outdoor interventions, whatever the conditions. We can work indoors as well as outdoors, so you can tailor the session to your needs. In exceptional cases, such as when the weather presents a safety risk (violent thunderstorms, storms, etc.) or is deemed unsuitable for the session, an office will be available to provide a safe and comfortable environment.
Q4 : Is my occupational therapist recognized?
All our occupational therapists are members of the Ordre des Ergothérapeutes du Québec (OEQ).
Q5: Will my group insurance cover my occupational therapy sessions?
Most group and private insurances reimburse treatment costs.
You must pay after each visit (Visa, Master Card, Interac, cheques and cash are accepted). A receipt will be issued. You must then forward the receipt to your insurance company, along with the medical referral if applicable, to be reimbursed according to the terms of your insurance coverage.
